Searching For A Hair Loss Remedy: The 40% Solution

While the forty percent of all men who are likely to experience
some hair loss in their lives constitute an enormous potential
market for an effective hair loss remedy, and research to supply
them with one is ongoing, only minoxidil has proven somewhat
effective in cases of male pattern baldness. Another drug,
originally created as a treatment for prostate problems, and now
marketed as the pill Propecia, also shows some promise as a hair
loss remedy.

But there has yet to be discovered a substance which will function as a universal hair loss remedy. No product currently used as a hair loss remedy can be effective in all instances of hair loss, because there are many underlying causes of baldness. Those people who educate themselves both about the way in which healthy hair grows, and the reasons it stops growing, will be much less likely to be hooked by the exaggerated claims of effectiveness which often accompany the latest hair loss remedy.

Research has indicated that the hormone dihydrotestosterone, or
DHT, may be one of the major factors in male pattern baldness.
Enzymes which can inhibit the body's production of DHT from
testosterone are credited with preventing hair loss; minoxidil
and finasteride, the active ingredients in Rogaine and Propecia,
have each been given FDA approval for use as a hair loss remedy.

Even though a hair loss panacea has yet to be discovered, those
suffering from hair loss will benefit from determining why they
are experiencing it so they can either search for an appropriate
hair loss remedy, or choose not to use one at all.

Some of the conditions leading to hair loss are curable; if its
underlying cause is eliminated, the hair loss will take care of
itself. Both lupus and diabetes, for instance, may contribute to
hair loss in their sufferers, and only by talking with your
physician will you know if either of them is a contributing
factor in yours.

Stress, both physical and emotional, has been linked to hair
loss, which was reversed as soon as the stress-inducing
situations were eliminated. In cases of stress, time may be the
only hair loss remedy necessary.

Hormone imbalances may lead to hair loss, and if the hormonal
balance is restored, hair growth may be as well. If someone is
not genetically pre-disposed to hair loss and begins
experiencing it, however, he or she should not use any kind of
hair loss remedy without first seeing a doctor to determine if
there is an organic reason for the condition.

The herb Gotu Kola has been used by Chinese herbalists for
centuries s one of the most effective natural hair loss
treatments; it has been researched and found to restore the hair
and thicken the skin of rats suffering from alopecia. Gotu Kola
may have the added benefit of thickening skin in humans as well
as restoring hair loss, as thinning of the skin is another
common sign of aging.

Another one of the natural hair loss treatments which is
claimed to thicken the skin, and relieve some of the pressure on
the very tiny blood vessels which transport nutrients to the
hair follicles is emu oil.

Believe it or not, smoking 'turns men bald'

London, Nov 26 (PTI) It's no news that smoking can cause a whole array of illnesses like lung cancer, impotence and heart disease. Add a fourth to the list -- baldness.

A team of international researchers has carried out a study and found that puffing on fags makes men prematurely bald as it accelerates the process of hair loss, the British media reported today.

"Smoking may damage the genetic structure of the hair follicles, the tiny structures responsible for hair growth. We have found significant associations between moderate or severe alopecia and smoking," lead researcher Dr Lin-hui Su said.

In fact, Dr Su of Far Eastern Memorial Hospital in Taipei and his fellow researchers came to the conclusion after analysing the effects of smoking on a group of 700 Taiwanese men, all 40-plus.

All the men's height and weight were measured, and blood samples analysed. Analysis of the results showed that the risk of hair loss increased with advancing age, but remained lower than the average risk for Caucasian men.

It also revealed a clear link between smoking and hair loss, with the heaviest smokers being most likely to suffer from male pattern baldness, even when a family history of the condition was taken into account.

The researchers found that those who smoked 20 fags or more a day were more than twice as likely to have moderate or severe hair loss than those who had never smoked. The risk remained elevated even among those who had quit the habit.

The findings of the study have been published in the 'Archives of Dermatology' journal. PTI

Faster Hair Growth Shampoo

Faster Hair Growth Shampoo
Finding the right shampoo for you can be a time consuming
process at the best of times, particularly as there are a
plethora of hair care products on the market catering for
all sorts of different hair types including shampoo and
conditioner for fine hair, thick hair, greasy hair, normal
hair, dry hair, damaged and bleached hair and even for
different hair colours. So what about faster hair growth
shampoo?

If you are concerned about hair loss or thinning hair and
want to encourage your hair to grow faster, there are also
many shampoos and conditioners out there that claim to
promote faster hair growth and minimise hair loss so what's
the difference between them an other shampoos?

Shampoos specially formulated to encourage faster hair
growth will usually contain a combination of active
ingredients that work together synergistically to improve
the condition of the scalp and the hair and will help to
remove a build up of DHT and sebum from the scalp to create
the best environment for new hair to grow. In order to
understand how faster hair growth shampoo can help; it
might be worth explaining how the hair grows.

The Hair Growth Cycle
Hair grows in cycles and not all the hair on your head will
be growing at the same time. Generally speaking, around
90% of the hair on your head is actively growing or in the
growth phase (Anagen) at any one time and an average growth
rate amounts to more or less around a centimetre a month.
The rest of your hair is in the Telogen stage or resting
phase and it is normal during this phase for hair to fall
out, sometimes as many as 100 hairs a day. The growth phase
can last anything from 2 to 6 years and the resting phase
usually lasts a few months.

There are many factors that will influence the length of
your growth phase and how fast your hair will be able to
grow and how easy it is for your hair to fall out during
the Telogen phase and these include your diet, medication,
your general health, and even stress, but one of the most
significant factors that will influence whether or not you
are likely to experience the typical male pattern baldness
or widespread thinning of the hair is genetics.

The main cause of typical male pattern baldness in men and
widespread thinning of the hair in women is linked to
androgens (hormones) and is known as androgenetic alopecia.
Your genes will dictate how sensitive you are to the
effects of the male hormone DHT or dihydrotestosterone.
High levels of DHT shorten the growth phase of the hair and
over time shrink the hair follicle so that the hair thins
out and eventually, no new hair is able to grow.

This pattern is different in men and women. Men's hair will
recede along the hairline and hair loss will be apparent on
the top of the head whereas in female pattern alopecia, the
hair tends to thin out over the top of the head and is
usually not as severe as male pattern alopecia.

Regardless of whether you are male or female, the trick to
minimising hair loss and encouraging faster hair growth is
to do everything possible to ensure that the growth phase
of the hair is extended and at the same time reduce the
risk of an excess of hair falling out during the resting
phase.

Shampoos that facilitate faster hair growth will often
contain ingredients that can help to reduce the amount of
DHT on the scalp and at the same time will nourish the
scalp and hair follicle giving the hair a better
opportunity to thrive. However, instead of relying on
shampoo alone, there are other tips that can help promote
faster hair growth.

Tips for faster hair growth

• Reduce the levels of DHT on the scalp by using an
appropriate shampoo and conditioner designed specifically
to do that

• Eat a healthy and balanced diet containing adequate
amounts of vitamins and amino acids so that your body has
all the nutrients it needs to feed the hair follicle

• Ensure that the circulation of blood to the scalp is good
so that the follicle is able to receive all the nutrients
it needs to produce healthy hair – massage whilst
shampooing is an excellent way of doing this

• Reduce stress levels

• Avoid anything that damages the hair and the hair
follicle, for example, heated appliances, harsh brushing,
tight ponytails, and shampoos containing harsh chemicals

Frequent washing with an unsuitable shampoo, particularly a
soap based shampoo, will strip your hair of its natural
oils and will give your hair a dull and lifeless look. The
ideal faster hair growth shampoo is one that will clean
your hair and leave it looking shiny, feeling silky and
most importantly, one that will not damage your hair or
irritate your scalp. As each and every one of us is
different, it is worth shopping around until you find a
shampoo that you are happy with, one that works for you.

Laser Hair Loss Treatment

One of the most common ways of treating hair loss today is
through laser hair loss treatment. It was already performed in
the 1970s, and at that time it was not officially on the
market. It is a non-surgical solution for hair loss, thinning
hair, and baldness, as well as, other disorders of the scalp
such as dermatitis.

Technically it is a piece of equipment that has 31 therapeutic
soft low light level lasers delivering light energy to
different places on the hair. This principle is based on
stimulating cell metabolism while repairing damaged cells at
the same time. By using the power of laser light you can boost
and revitalize your hair. The theory is that light is energy
and living cells survive thanks to light. The same goes for
your hair. This has proven to be very efficient combined with
proper hair hygiene products. As a matter of fact, laser hair
loss treatment is more effective when used together with
Minoxidil (the first drug approved by the FDA for hair loss),
and with the right scalp hygiene.

Laser hair loss treatment has been so successful that it has
received numerous, positive reviews. Magazines, newspapers as
well TV channels claim that the success of this method of
treating hair loss is one of the best that can be found today,
a problem that is not only afflicting men but also a good
percentage of women.

Many are the benefits of laser hair loss treatment and many
people who tried it have claimed that their hair loss had been
greatly reduced after six to twelve weeks of use and slight
differences could even be seen after twelve weeks.

Using laser hair loss treatment can improve the flow of blood
supply to the scalp after a single treatment. The correct
dosage of light energy is applied from a different number of
laser positions and helps in stimulating hair follicles,
preventing too much hair loss and giving beautiful hair which
is shiny, soft as well as thick and better manageable.

Laser hair loss treatment is the new, scientific approach to
reducing hair loss in the scalp, and does not require any kind
of surgery at all just some patience and time. Moreover it has
been medically tested to be both safe and effective.

Last but not least, studies conducted by the International
Journal of Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology, have
demonstrated that laser hair loss treatment can positively help
lots of hair loss sufferers in reducing the amount of hair loss.
The authors also found a link between low level laser and hair
loss.

Facing Up To Hair Loss

Balding, hair thinning and hair loss are problems which most
men and many women will have to face at some point in life.
Often losing hair is the cause of intense stress. People fear
that hair loss will make them less attractive and they
associate going bald with getting older. Hair loss in women and
early-onset male hair loss cause particular distress. Yet
despite this, and despite the huge number of companies
researching products to prevent baldness, we still know
relatively little about the cause of hair loss.

The most common types of male-pattern baldness and
female-pattern baldness are comparatively well understood, in
that we know when they are most likely to happen and can trace
some of the genetic associations. Male-pattern baldness usually
occurs later on in life, though hair thinning may start as early
as the twenties. Female-pattern baldness usually occurs after
the menopause, with hormone changes a probable cause of hair
loss. However, there are several other less common types of
baldness which can occur earlier in life.

Toxic alopecia is a form of balding which occurs in response to
stress. This stress can be psychological or physiological - for
example, stress caused by chemotherapy. Toxic alopecia may just
be temporary, but it is difficult to deal with because going
bald causes stress in itself. The early appearance of grey hair
can also be caused by stress.

Alopecia areata is a disease of unknown origin which can cause
hair thinning and hair loss across all areas of the body, but
usually from the scalp. It causes patchy balding but does not
leave scars. Scarring alopecia involves one of several
different conditions which destroy hair follicles and replace
them with scar tissue, causing permanent and irreversible
balding. Menopausal changes and lupus erythematosus can both be
the cause of hair loss of this type. Nonscarring alopecia is
much more amenable to treatment.

Whatever the cause of hair loss in a given situation, you can
bet that most people will seek a hair loss solution. But what
kind of hair loss remedy is most likely to work? In many cases,
hair loss shampoo will reduce the frequency of loss, being
kinder to thinning hair. Some people find that they can
successfully take vitamins for hair loss. Vitamins for hair
loss are especially useful in treating women's hair loss, since
female hair loss is likely to be caused by hormonal changes
which are susceptible to treatment. However, since male-pattern
baldness is the most common form of hair loss, most of the
products on the market are aimed at tackling male hair loss.

In most cases, whatever the cause of hair loss, rapid balding
is not inevitable. If you're going bald, it's worth taking your
time to find the right hair loss solution. Face up to the
problem soon enough, and you can stop hair loss.

Hair Loss Treatments

A Hindu healing tradition that is very popular in India and Sri
Lanka is called Ayurveda. This treatment helps the individual
with their doshas: vata, pitta, and kapha. These areas create a
person's unique prakriti. It is believed that hair loss results
from too much pitta. The best way to take care of it is by
making changes to a person's diet, use of herbs, oil massage,
meditation, breathing techniques, aromatherapy, and yoga.

The very best type of diet to prevent hair loss is one that is
high in protein and iron. This involves eating green, leafy
vegetables and foods that don't contain much fat such as soy
and yogurt. It is helpful to drink Aloe Vera juice and to add
sesame seeds to your salads. Another great juice is made from
lettuce and spinach leaves mixed with carrot juice. Make sure
you consume plenty of the Vitamins A and C.

There are a variety of herbs that are known to effectively
fight hair loss. Depending on the type of herb, it can be
swallowed, ground into a paste, or in the form of a lotion that
you rub on your scalp.

Common herbs used for this include Kuttannati, Gunja, Malati,
and Karavira. Oil massages can be beneficial too because they
help improve the level of circulation to the scalp which
promotes hair growth. It helps if you gently tug and the roots
of the hair while you are massaging the scalp. Popular
massaging oils include coconut oil, Vitamin E oil, Brahmi oil,
and Bahringaraj oil. For more info see
http://tipurl.com/WomenHairLoss

Aromatherapy combined with essential oils is great of ayurveda
as well. The best essential oils to try are Bay, Cedar Wood,
grapefruit, Jojoba, Lavender, lemon, Chamomile, and Rosemary.
You can add such essential oils to the water you use to rinse
your hair after you have shampooed it. Some people prefer to
add the oils to vegetable oil and then massage it into the
scalp.

Ayurveda should be viewed as a way of life that involves
balancing the physical properties, philosophy, spirituality,
and a person's lifestyle. Meditation and breathing exercises
should be part of your lifestyle as they help calm your spirit
and your mind. Yoga can be helpful too as some of the inverted
exercises will help you get more circulation to your scalp.

For the best results with ayurveda, schedule an appointment
with an ayurvedia practitioner. Don't be tempted to make
changes to your diet and rub various oils on your scalp. You
need to be prepared to make the necessary lifestyle changes to
treat your hair loss effectively.

Faster Hair Growth Tips

There are a number of factors that can influence how fast
your hair can grow and some of these include your diet,
your state of health, any medication you're taking,
hormonal influences, environmental influences and even your
stress levels. Hair growth tends to slow down the older
you get so age is also a consideration and of course your
genetic blueprint plays a role too. Normal hair growth is
therefore very difficult to define as it will vary
considerably from person to person but on average, the hair
on our head grows at a rate of around one centimetre a
month.

All this said, there are some things you can do to maximise
your hair growth potential and encourage it to grow faster
but first it helps if you first have an understanding of
the hair growth cycle and how the hair actually grows.

The hair growth cycle

On average, the human head contains around 100,000 hairs,
90% of which are actively growing at any one time. This
growth phase is known as `Anagen' and is one of three
stages in the hair growth cycle. It lasts anything from a
couple of years to about six or even ten years in total
before the hair enters the second stage, `Catagen'. This
is where over the next few weeks the hair follicle is
degraded and the hair stops growing. Finally, the hair
enters into the resting phase or `Telogen' which lasts for
several months and during this part of the cycle it is
perfectly normal to shed a certain amount of hair, which
can be as much as 100 hairs a day.

If we want to give our hair the best chance to grow faster
and healthier then we need to take full advantage of the
growth phase of the cycle and make sure that we are doing
everything we can to minimise hair follicle damage and
maximise hair growth potential.

Diet

Healthy hair growth relies on a number of nutrients to feed
the hair follicle so in the first instance, faster hair
growth starts from the inside and with your diet. Any
nutritional deficiencies in your diet will show up as dull,
lifeless looking hair, poor hair growth, thinning of the
hair and even hair loss so making sure you have a balanced
diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables is essential.
Fruit and vegetables contain important antioxidants which
can help protect the hair and promote faster hair growth.

Hair is composed of a protein known as Keratin so not
surprisingly, a diet lacking in protein can hinder hair
health and growth. Many people are still unaware of the
importance of getting enough Omega 3 fatty acids in their
diet, a lack of which will show up in the health of your
hair. Omega 3 fatty acids can be found in oily fish or
fish oil supplements and have powerful anti-inflammatory
properties and so can alleviate any inflammation in the
scalp and as they help the blood flow more efficiently they
also help to nourish the scalp.

Massage

Try to massage the scalp on a daily basis. Massage helps to
stimulate the circulation of blood to the hair follicle and
removes dead skin and helps to unclog pores all of which
allow the hair to grow more freely. A good time to do
massage your scalp is when washing your hair.

What to avoid

• Avoid any pressure on the scalp from tight pony tails,
clips and clasps, elastic bands or anything that restricts
your hair, your hair should be left as free as possible as
much as possible. Don't brush your hair too harshly, this
can damage your hair as well as irritate your scalp.

• Hair colouring, blow drying, straightening, using heated
rollers and perming your hair can damage the hair follicle
and hinder growth as well as make the hair dry and brittle
and more prone to falling out so refrain from subjecting
your hair to any of these.

• Excessive washing of the hair, particularly with shampoos
containing harsh chemicals can remove the natural oils in
the scalp, so it is important to use a good quality shampoo
and conditioner and avoid washing the hair every day if you
can.

Conclusion

The best way to encourage faster hair growth is to adopt a
two-fold approach. First, make sure everything is right on
the inside by eating a healthy and balanced diet and the
second is to try to eliminate most or all the factors that
can damage your hair or scalp and slow down the growth
rate. Together this will give your hair the best
opportunity to grow to its full potential, not only faster
but healthier too.

Hair Loss Shampoo

Did you know that nearly 30 million people around the world
suffer from hair loss? That's why this is considered to be a
billion dollar industry because both men and women feel social
embarrassment. Even though thousands of hair loss products are
available on the market, hair loss shampoo is the widely used
product. Hair loss is very often heritable. It may also occur
due to aging or hormonal imbalance. Since hair loss is
heritable, it may be from your father's side or mother's side.
There is a common view that the hair loss is mainly from
mother's side but it is not true. Different hair loss
treatments are available for different hair loss patterns. One
among them is hair loss shampoo.

Many people suffering from hair loss are using hair loss
shampoo, because it is the easiest way of treating hair loss.
But in a lot of cases not the best! There are numerous
varieties of hair loss shampoos available in drugstores. One
among them is Dr.Proctor's hair loss shampoo, which consists of
natural ingredients, no chemicals are added. Statistics show
that this product is the favorite hair loss shampoo. The second
most popular hair loss shampoo is called Life Extension Shampoo.
Find out more about Thinning Hair

Other commonly used hair loss shampoos are Viviscal, Hair
Genesis, Thymuskin, Revivogen, nisim, and Tricomin. A research
study confirms that Thymuskin hair loss shampoo is 95%
effective in female and 67% in the male pattern baldness.
Viviscal shampoo is also very popular. It treats thinning hair,
hair loss, and proclaims overall health of the hair. Viviscal is
also available as tablets, scalp lotion and conditioner apart
from hair loss shampoo. Viviscal is extracted from marine,
which provides the essential amino acids to the hair follicle
to keep it healthier. Hair Genesis is not only available as
hair loss shampoo, but also as an oral supplement, topical
serum, and conditioner. This natural hair loss product helps to
block the DHT by using the botanical DHT blockers to impede hair
loss. It has to be used for at least 3 months before any
positive effect is seen as a result of this treatment.

How does a hair loss shampoo work? Hair loss shampoo cleans the
hair follicle from debris, dirt, oil, and other wastes. These
hair loss shampoos have thymus peptides that will diffuse deep
into the hair follicles to remove the adhered dirt.

Hair Renew is one of the hair loss shampoos that are specially
made for women. This hair loss shampoo cleanses the scalp,
neutralizes the DHT in the scalp and also nourishes the hair
follicles. DHT in the hair follicles blocks the available
nutrients to the hair follicle which results in hair loss.

Be careful in selecting a hair loss shampoo, because some
shampoos may harm your hair and may even provoke more hair loss
than preventing it.

Top 5 Ways To Treat Hair Loss

New research indicates that like many other medical problems, hair loss is best treated before it becomes a serious problem.
For example, doctors in Asia believe that dandruff and other
scalp conditions that cut off the blood supply to hair root can
lead to hair loss. They argue that because it cannot breathe or
receive nourishment, the root of the hair dies and falls out.

So, the earliest form of treatment for hair loss should be
scalp massage to stimulate the blood vessels of the scalp and
help keep the hair follicles healthy enough to grow. Along with
this treatment, doctors recommend seeking out hair care products
that lead to a healthy scalp. Conditions such as eczema or
seborrhea should be treated quickly and treatment continued to
maintain a healthy scalp. A healthy scalp is less likely to
experience hair loss.

Those same doctors say that poor nutrition can be a
contributing factor to hair loss. People need to maintain a
health diet in an effort to promote healthy hair growth.
Doctors say diets should be rich in vitamins and iron to
promote healthy blood flow to the scalp. Complete body health
also contributes to maintaining healthy hair.

There are also treatments designed to prevent hair loss and
help grow hair. Herbal topical treatments to regrow hair are
usually based on theories similar to the Asian doctors. The
topical treatments for hair loss typically include herbs to
stimulate the blood vessels of the scalp and to clean it. These
products often act on the concept that clogged hair follicles
cause hair loss. They treat various scalp conditions and
include herbs that help hair grow.

A more recent development in the treatment of hair loss are
oral medications that are thought to combat the hormonal
imbalance that leads to pattern baldness. These medications are
only available through medical professionals.

And finally, there are surgical treatments designed to
transplant hair follicles to the scalp and grow new hair where
the old hair had died. These treatments usually involve
removing hair follicles from another part of the body and
transplanting them to the scalp.

A very thin incision in the scalp is made and pulled back to
create a new home for the transplanted hair. Then, the hair is
allowed to grow naturally in the new location.

These procedures are often done gradually and in the office to
minimize the cost of the procedure. It is also done in stages
to avoid looking like a hair piece or like obvious cosmetic
surgery.

Certain medications and stress can also contribute to hair
loss, so doctors recommend minimizing stress levels to prevent
hair loss. However, once a person is suffering from hair loss,
there are additional treatments available. There are hair
pieces and hair “thickening” products designed to make the hair
loss less apparent. These products do not treat the hair loss,
but minimize the social effects of it by hiding the bald spots.

Innovations In Hair Transplant And Other Alternatives To Hair Loss

Although many people do not have visible hair loss, hair loss is a natural daily occurrence. Approximately 50 to 150 hairs are lost each day, but most hair regenerates because the hair follicle remains intact. If the follicles shrink due to heredity, hormones, stress, infection, certain prescription medication, illness, nutritional deficiency or age, the hair is not restored. When shedding significantly surpasses hair growth, baldness occurs. This Male Pattern Baldness usually begins at the forehead or on the top of the head, and progresses to the familiar horseshoe-shaped fringe of hair. Depending on your type of hair loss, treatments are available.

Since hair loss may be an early sign of a disease, it is important to find the cause so that it can be properly treated. A doctor usually inspects the hair shafts, and may perform a biopsy of the skin. A biopsy helps determine if the hair follicles are normal; if they are not, the biopsy may indicate possible causes. If the doctor's examination finds signs of irregularities or other serious illness, blood tests to identify those disorders may be required.

Assuming no diseases, or pathologies there are two medications that can treat baldness effectively. Minoxidil, originally used to treat hypertension, has been shown to stimulate hair growth in adult men and women with a certain type of baldness. The exact way that this medicine works is unknown. Hair growth usually occurs after the medicine has been used for several months and lasts only as long as the medicine continues to be used. Hair loss will begin again within a few months after Minoxidil treatment is stopped. Minoxidil is applied directly to the scalp on a daily basis. Minoxidil can be used for both men and women.

Proscar, a medication used for prostate enlargement, works by blocking the effects of male hormones on the hair follicles and is taken by mouth daily.

Individuals with increased levels of the hormone DHT in the scalp experience a shortening growth phase or thinning of the hair. Proscar lowers the level of this hormone, and contributes to the normalization of the hair growth cycle. Proscar may be used for men only.

Improvement may occur with either of these drugs when taken for several months. The most important effect of these drugs may be to prevent further hair loss. The effects last only as long as the drugs are taken. A more permanent solution is a hair transplant, in which hair follicles are removed from one part of the scalp and transplanted to the bald area. During this procedure, the surgeon removes a section of hair form the back of the head, near the base of the skull. This area of hair is genetically different because they do not have the gene for hair loss in their follicles. Only a small scar is left and unless one shaves the back of the scalp is it not noticeable. The donated follicles are then placed in saline solution, while small incisions are made in the areas of hair loss. Each individual donated follicle is placed creating an uneven ordinary hairline. After the hairline is formed, the remaining donor follicles are put where thinned or balding spots occur.

In the newer hair transplant technique, only one or two hairs are transplanted at a time. Although this technique is more tedious, and time consuming, it does not require removal of large plugs of skin and allows the implants to be oriented in the same direction as the natural hair.

If satisfactory treatments are not appropriate for your type of hair loss, you may consider trying different hairstyles, wigs, hair weaves, hairpieces, or artificial hair replacement, or very simply wear a hat.

Is There A Hair Loss Remedy

The loss of hair is caused by a variety of reasons. While it is true that hair loss is part of the natural process of the growth and development of the scalp area, as well as the cells underlying it, abnormal cases may occur that fall outside of what is considered to be ?normal?. It is these abnormal losses of hair that cause a great many people to search for a hair loss remedy.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Simply stated, hormones cause natural hair loss. It?s a fact that we lose more than a hundred strands of hair per day without our knowledge. While we shed a considerable amount of hair daily, it is later replaced by a new growth of young, vibrant, shiny hair.

However, for reasons that still remain unclear, many people experience an abnormal loss of hair. Later in this article, you will find information on how hair loss is accelerated, and what you can do to prevent, or minimize the loss of hair through the use of natural remedies and a little habit changing.

What Do We Really Know About Hair Loss?

Hair loss as a result of aging is commonly referred to as Androgenic Alopecia. This phenomenon is normal and accounts for more than 96% of hair loss in people of advancing age.

This normal process of hair loss is genetic in origin; meaning, it ?runs in one?s blood,? and has the tendency to be passed on to offspring who may also exhibit the same characteristics. Men suffer hair loss more often than women, with both seeking a hair loss remedy as a solution to their problem.

The first sign of hairloss in men is usually a receding hairline. Men would usually see this when baldness begins at the original hairline, and continues toward the top of the head. While women also suffer hair loss, the resulting effect is not as significant as it is in men.

The term ?Male Pattern Baldness? usually begins in men in their twentys. However, signs of pattern baldness may show up as early as sixteen years of age, and in extreme cases, as young as fourteen. A womens progression of hair loss may go unnoticed due to the pattern being more evenly distributed on their head then on a mans.

In women, the entire scalp experiences an even hair loss, unlike men, where a specific portion of the scalp is initially affected, and then progresses to other parts of the scalp. Male hair loss starting in a specific area makes it noticeable even in minor cases.

A research team at the Wood Center of the University Of San Francisco was able to create a synthetic hair loss remedy that encourages hair growth in areas where follicular damage has occurred.

Copper Peptide, a synthetic medical product, was successfully used to promote active hair follicle renewal, and hair growth in damaged areas. The growth of hair is part of the unusual positive side effects copper peptide has on hair follicles. This has been an important development in the search for an effective hair loss remedy.

How To Prevent Hair Loss

The loss of hair is more-often-than-not caused by chemical substances we either take into our body, or put on to it. Whichever the case may be, the following facts will help you avoid some of the common pitfalls that encourage hair loss.

Scalp Massage - Massaging the scalp is one of the best ways to encourage hair growth. Follicular cells in the scalp area are stimulated during massage helping them to divide vigorously. Scalp massage also brings blood into the area where it is being applied. This improves circulation which thereby provides nutrients to the developing hair.

Natural Products With Less Chemical Fragrance - The fragrance additives contained in shampoos, and soaps may cause irritation to the follicles of the scalp. Consequently, it would be advisable to stay away from hair products with added fragrance, and try using herbal shampoos without fragrance.

Eat A High-Protein Diet ? Hair itself is comprised of protein so it is reasonable enough to assume that eating a high-protein diet may help your scalp to support an active healthy growth of hair.

Until a fool-proof cure for hair loss is developed a good program of prevention is your best bet. With a little luck, you just might not need that hair loss remedy.

Home Remedies for Hair Loss

Many of us are wary of using harsh chemicals on the delicate skin of our scalp, for the fear of side effects, especially when we are losing more hair than is normal. In this scenario, the best solution is to try some home remedies for hair loss.

Through generations, people have resorted to various home remedies to combat hair loss. Many have been benefited by following some simple corrective steps.

The best method to stop excessive hair fall is to take care that your diet comprises notorious, protein-rich food items. Good sources of protein are soybean, lentils, pulses, yeast, milk and milk-products like yogurt, cottage-cheese, and lean meat and fish. Include as much of green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits as possible.

Include fibers in your food, and drink more than 10 liters of water every day, to regularize bowel movements. Accumulation of debris like undigested food particles are not eliminated from your system created toxins that further aggravate hair loss.

Juices of alfalfa, coriander and spinach are said to boost hair growth. The juice of a lemon, when applied to the scalp, is believed to cure even bald patches.

Massage your scalp gently with warm oil at least one before washing your hair. This helps in increasing the blood-circulation at the hair roots. The oils that are beneficial include pure coconut oil, almond oil, castor oil and olive oil. The natural oils are excellent sources of vital nutrients and minerals that revive the hair follicles. Massage for ten to fifteen minutes in light circular motions without applying too much stress, or your follicles might get damaged further.

You may consider making your own shampoo at home. Mix equal amounts of amla, reetha and shikakai, soak them in water for almost twelve hours, boil the liquid until it reduces to half the previous quantity, strain it and use it to wash your hair. This shampoo protects the hair from damage by the chemical ingredients used in the shampoos available in the market.

Applying aloe vera gel before shampooing is also known to help reducing hair fall. Some believe that massaging the scalp with a mixture of raw eggs and curd, or honey and egg yolks, helps. These materials provide excellent nourishment to your scalp and strengthen the hair roots.

Soak henna in black tea overnight, squeeze in half a lemon, and apply the paste on your hair. Henna is an excellent natural conditioner and also removes dandruff – one of the primary causes of hair loss.

Consider applying a pack of olive oil, honey and cinnamon to your scalp. Keep it on for about fifteen minutes and then wash off with a mild shampoo. This prevents drying of the scalp.

However, if the hair loss is intense and basic home remedies fail to control it, you must seek professional help from a dermatologist.

Hair Replacement - What They Don't Tell You

Hair Club for Men or Hans Wiemann?
Although there are several companies in St. Louis that offer hair replacement therapy, Hair Club for Men and Hans Wiemann are the two largest. Both companies have been in business for many years and have extensive experience in what causes hair loss and which methods work best for hair replacement. Unfortunately, there are still no miracle cures, but there are some solutions.

There are two drugs approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat male-pattern baldness: minoxidil and finasteride (Propecia). Although Propecia is much more effective than Minoxidil, neither drug has been proven effective in totally regrowing hair. These drugs do not work for all people and are more effective in preventing hair loss than in hair restoration.

Hair transplants consist of removal of tiny plugs of hair from areas where the hair is continuing to grow and placing them in areas that are balding.

This can cause minor scarring in the donor areas and carries a modest risk for skin infection. The procedure usually requires multiple transplantation sessions and may be expensive. Results, however, are often excellent and permanent.

Hair weaving, hairpieces, or change of hairstyle may disguise the hair loss. This is usually the least expensive and safest treatment for male pattern baldness.

Non-surgical Implants - This is the most common procedure performed by the major hair replacement companies and is a service that is offered by Hair Club for Men and Hans Wiemann in St. Louis. In all actuality the term Non-Surgical Implant is a term that was invented to disguise a simple procedure with some updated variations that hair replacement organizations have been performing for years.

Actually, a non surgical implant is accomplished by attaching a hair system (the hair appears to grow directly from your own scalp) to existing hair with a surgical type glue and then cutting the hair so that it blends in with the already healthy growing hair. By using human hair and coloring it to match existing hair the system really can and normally does look totally natural. This procedure is not near as expensive as surgical hair implantation but it does require constant maintenance that can be on the pricey side.

Haircuts need to be done by the hair replacement company because the system is removed at that time, thoroughly cleaned, a scalp treatment is done to keep the scalp healthy, additional hair and color can be added to the system if necessary, and the system is then re-implanted with surgical glue. Haircuts normally run $65.00 to $75.00 plus tip.

Since the hair system is not living hair it does need special attention and special hair care products that are available from the hair replacement company. These products are a little more expensive than shampoos, conditioners, etc. that you would normally buy from your grocery store or a beauty supply store.

Hair systems normally need to be replaced anywhere from four to six times per year. Again, this is not growing, living hair so it does become brittle and there is also hair loss even when good care is exercised.

Non-surgical hair implantation is probably the most practical solution to hair replacement and is affordable for people that suffer emotional distress from hair loss. It is important to realize that a hair system is only as good as the stylist that installs the system. A bad haircut looks just as bad on a hair system as it does with naturally growing hair. The only problem is that if you get a bad cut with a system, you might have to live with it for several months.

Following are the main differences between Hair Club for Men and Hans Wiemann. Both companies offer some great solutions for people suffering from hair loss and appear to be a good value for the money.

Hair Club for Men

*Initial Investment of $1200.00 to $1400.00
*Monthly plans starting at $199.00 to $499.00 that will include from 4 systems and 8 cuts per year to 12 systems, unlimited salon visits, and all hair care products.
*Facilities in most major cities across the country.

Hans Wiemann

*Initial investment is $500.00 to $2500.00
*Monthly services run from $35.00 to $65.00
*Locally owned and operated, not a franchise
*Total Hair Restoration Center including
*Laser Hair Retention
*Ross Treatment Program
*Surgical Transplants from PAI Medical
*All services located in the same facility
*All surgeries are performed on site

Popular Hair Loss Products

There are many popular hair loss products on the market today, and more choices are available as more consumers are looking for products which prevent or reverse the effects of hair loss. At one time, mainly men were researching popular hair loss products, but now there is more awareness among women of the problem of hair loss, particularly after menopause. Since it is more common that women avoid radical hormone replacement therapy because of the potential health risks associated with it, they are searching for popular hair loss products designed for women which will block DHT, responsible for hair loss, without giving them excessive doses of estrogen. There are popular hair loss products for both men and women, and it is not difficult to find a brand that is right for you.

________________________________
Popular hair loss products are often designed for a specific gender because of the hormonal component in many treatments. Among popular hair loss products for men, only two are recognized by the Food and Drug Administration:

•Finasteride (or Propecia)
•Minoxidil (or Rogaine)

Propecia is a common choice among younger men and is considered safe and effective, although extended use has been associated with an itchy, flaky scalp. Propecia, like many popular hair loss products, consists of DHT inhibitors, which block the hormone responsible for hair loss.

Rogaine is a much-advertised, and is the most well-known among popular hair loss products. Many have seen results in Rogaine, but this treatment requires some patience; for those who take Rogaine twice daily, there might be a few months before results appear. There are some side effects associated with Rogaine, and because of the hormonal nature of the treatment, there might be a loss of libido if Rogain is taken for an extended period of time.

Since many popular hair loss products have side effects associated with them, many people prefer to take alternative remedies. However, since these remedies are not guaranteed by the FDA, there is no assurance that they are effective except through testimonials and a few isolated studies. One natural product on the market is Dr. Proctor’s shampoo, which contains all-natural ingredients for stimulating the scalp and promoting hair growth. Included among Dr. Proctor products are conditioners, lotions and tablets. Hair Genesis is also a popular hair loss product, and blocks DHT. This treatment is taken in the form of oral supplements and has no side effects.

Natural remedies are usually more popular with women than with men, because men’s hair loss occurs more rapidly, and usually, men are looking for a product with guaranteed results. However, many people have seen a return of their hair growth with natural products, and they are certainly worth a try, especially for people who are concerned about side effects.

Aside from popular hair loss products on the market, there are also suggested steps to take and techniques to prevent and reverse the effects of hair loss. Many people lose their hair because of undue stress, malnutrition or a medical condition.

It is a good idea to get to the bottom of whatever may be causing hair loss. Anemia and thyroid problems commonly cause people to lose their hair. Supplementing one’s diet and taking the
correct medications for these conditions can prevent further hair loss. Chemotherapy is also another cause of hair loss. This, however, is usually temporary, and the hair grows back after treatments. It is better to wait it out than to take popular hair loss products which may have side effects and compound a patient’s discomfort.

For many relieving stress and eating a healthy diet may promote hair growth, but for others, using popular hair loss products is the most effective way of reversing the effects of hair loss.

What Is The Right Hair Loss Treatment For Me

Many people consider hair as their crowning glory. It is a natural fact that the head sheds hair everyday. Should the amount of hair loss be more than the body can naturally replace, it could eventually lead to baldness. Hair loss that has led to baldness can deal a harsh blow to one’s confidence, and self-image. It is for this reason that those affected with this recognized problem are constantly searching for the most effective hair loss treatment.

Many factors contribute to the loss of hair. The loss may be as a result of an illness, or even the treatments, or medications used to combat an illness. Also, if one is genetically predisposed – due to your father, or mother’s, or grandparents baldness – to losing hair, then there is a good chance that you too will lose it. Additional contributors can be pregnancy, menopause, changing levels of hormones, or stress. All may contribute significantly.

What should you do when you see the signs of excessive hair loss, and need hair loss treatment?

Go To A Doctor

Consulting with your doctor is the first thing you should do when your hair loss seems to be excessive. An endocrinologist, and a dermatologist can help you to eliminate any possible medical reasons that may be causing your unnecessary hair loss.

Apply Minoxidil

You probably are already familiar with a product called Rogaine which is applied to any bald patch on the head. Rogaine is usually applied at least two times a day. The manner and the exact method of how this product works is not really known, but it has been said to cause the blood vessels in the scalp to dilate. Many have found this to be an effective hair loss treatment.

However, when the minoxidil treatments are stopped, the hair loss would again resume in as little as a month or two.

Apply Propecia

This product is also known as Proscar, and is effectively used by many women as a hair loss treatment.

The active ingredient in Proscar is finasteride. Finasteride has been proven to block the active formation of testosterone. It also helps to bring back to life those hairs that have long been predisposed to an inactive life resulting in substantial new growth.

Surgical Hair Replacement

The option to add hair where there is none through surgery is a process called micrografting. This process replaces lost hair with results that make the hair look natural, and is a permanent hair loss treatment.

This process requires a thin strip of hair containing hundreds of hair strands, to be surgically inserted into a slit on the scalp. The surgeon must then expertly ensure that the hairs inserted appear to grow in the same direction as the natural hair.

This is surgery, so before undergoing this process, it is important that you first ask the surgeon for references, and try to look into live samples of the surgeon’s work.

Treat Alopecia

Though not much is really known about this hair loss condition, there has been evidence to show that there exists a genetic predisposition to this hair disease, one of which involves the body’s auto immune system.

All in all, there are a lot of hair loss treatment options available. If you are not comfortable with your hair loss, take the time to investigate all of your options.

Hair Loss & Miracle Cures

The philosopher George Santayana said: "Skepticism is the chastity of the intellect."

The showman P.T. Barnum said: "There’s a sucker born every minute."

The philosopher and the showman both said basically the same thing: A healthy skepticism protects you from being ‘suckered’ by an unverified claim.

Advances in surgical and microsurgical technique over the past 50 years make surgical treatment of hair loss a possibility for many of the millions of Americans. Advances in understanding of the biochemistry and physiology of hair growth and hair loss make medical treatment of hair loss a scientifically documented reality for the first time in history. Efficacy of surgical and FDA-approved medical treatment is confirmed in clinical trials (See Medical Hair Restoration Treatments and Nonsurgical hair loss treatment options for more information). Scientifically confirmed success of surgical and medical hair restoration is a phenomenon of recent decades. Undocumented claims of "miracle cure" for hair loss have been with us for much longer—at least since the days of the patent medicine salesmen of the 19th Century.

How can you sort out the undocumented claims of "miracle cures" for hair loss from the scientifically documented facts about hair restoration? We hope the following explanation can help you make informed decisions about treatment for hair loss. Read on about "Miracle Cures" for Hair Loss: You Can Put Them to the Test Even Without Using Them.

One of the burgeoning "miracle cure" fields is hair restoration, advertised in print, on television and over the Internet.

How can you check out these products to determine if they will do what is claimed for them?

One way is to accept the claims at face value, purchase the products, and try them.

The other way is to approach the claims with a healthy skepticism and apply some "truth-of-claims tests" to determine if a product appears to be what the seller promises:

Do claims use words such as "miraculous", "amazing", "sensational", "scientific breakthrough", "developed by doctors"?

These are classic Snake Oil claims and your skepticism should go into high gear. Any product claim that asks for your 100% gullibility should be suspect.

What proof of product effectiveness is offered?

If the only "proof" is anecdotal—e.g., a testimonial that "I used Product X and had a full head of hair in 30 days"—be skeptical. So-called testimonials are not scientifically valid proof of effectiveness. What you want to see is documented proof that the product has been tested in clinical trials (see below) and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as indicated in product packaging.

Has the product been approved by the FDA?

A product that stimulates the growth of hair is a product with a potent physiologic effect. What you should want to know is (1) does the product actually stimulate hair growth in a majority of persons who use it, and (2) if so, does it do so safely with minimal side effects? FDA approval assures you that both product effectiveness and product safety have been rigorously investigated in clinical trials.

Has the product been tested in FDA-approved clinical trials?

Clinical trials are (1) medical investigative studies in which human beings are the test subjects, and (2) required by the FDA for the approval of a new drug or new uses of an existing drug. Before clinical trials are undertaken, a product has usually been studied in laboratory tests and in animals to determine mechanism of action, efficacy and safety. There are several types of clinical trials but the "gold standard" for unbiased study results is the randomized, double-blind controlled trial (RCT).

In the RCT, study subjects are randomly assigned to a study group or control group, and neither the investigators nor the study subjects and controls know who is receiving the treatment under investigation and who is receiving placebo (a non-drug with no physiologic effect—a "sugar pill"). Thus, RCTs are "double blind"—both investigators and study subjects are "blinded" regarding who is receiving the investigative drug and who is receiving placebo. [Interestingly, in the clinical trials of FDA-approved finasteride and minoxidil a significant percentage of people receiving placebo reported new hair growth even though careful measurements and photographs showed that no new hair had been grown. This demonstration of ‘wishful thinking’ indicates the value of ‘blinded’ studies that eliminate bias—a tendency to see what you want to see.

It is important to keep this in mind when evaluating glowing anecdotal reports of effectiveness from people who used non-FDA approved remedies.] RCTs are also designed to assure that the number of people being studied will yield a statistically meaningful result. Product effectiveness and product safety are two parameters always investigated in clinical trials. Pharmaceutical firms sponsor RCTs to gather the data necessary to win FDA approval for a new drug or new uses for an existing drug. FDA rules specify conditions under which the clinical trials are conducted. The studies are conducted by recognized medical investigators in hospitals and medical centers, or by physicians in private offices independent of any involvement by the firm paying for the trials. If a product wins FDA approval, it must be marketed within FDA guidelines and claims cannot exceed the findings of clinical trials. As of June 2001, two hair-restoration agents have been approved by the FDA—finasteride (Propeciaâ ) and minoxidil (Rogaineâ ). See Nonsurgical hair loss treatment options for information about these treatments.

Does product advertising include the listing of any side effects associated with use of the product?

FDA-approved clinical trials include study of product safety and side effects. It would be unusual to find that a product with a potent physiologic effect--such as stimulating of hair growth--had no side effects. While side effects may be minimal and may be experienced by relatively small numbers of people, potential users of the product should be aware of the potential for side effects. If product advertising fails to mention side effects or claims no side effects, be skeptical.

Is a medical examination recommended before use of the product?

While inherited tendency for hair loss is the most common cause of baldness in the U.S., there are other causes that may require medical treatment prior to hair restoration (See About hair loss for more information). Surgical or non-surgical hair restoration should not be undertaken prior to examination by a physician specializing in hair loss and restoration. Be skeptical of a product claim that (1) omits recommendation for use under medical supervision, or (2) says you can use the product without medical supervision.

"Miracle cures" for hair loss typically have little or no scientific basis for their claims and no controlled trials of safety and efficacy. On the other hand are science-based medical treatments for male and female pattern baldness that have shown promise in limited studies, but to date have not been proven safe and/or effective in large controlled trials acceptable for FDA approval. Some of these over-the-counter treatments are potential candidates for future approval by the FDA. Claims of effectiveness for these treatments usually cannot be documented by reference to clinical trials; claims are more likely to be anecdotal.

Is the product a "hair thickener" rather than a hair restorer?

Read the product marketing information carefully to be sure you understand the claims. Some products are capable of making temporary chemical changes in hair that "thicken" each hair strand and create an effect of "a fuller head of hair". Hair thickeners do not stimulate hair growth but they may produce a temporary cosmetic improvement in thinning hair. A ISHRS physician can counsel you regarding the use of a hair thickener to complement hair restoration.

The best way to judge hair restoration product claims is on the basis of objective criteria such as the results of FDA-approved clinical trials and subsequent FDA approval. Consultation with hair restoration doctor is the best first step when you are considering hair restoration.

Are You Bald? Get Your Hair Back 1

For both men and women who start to go bald the idea is not onethey can easily accept. If you are bald you can get your hairback with one of the many options available to you.

Each day the body disperses hundreds of hairs. This is the hair generally found around the shower drain. If hair loss is on the rise it is important to find out what the underlying cause is because the sooner the cause is discovered the sooner the real problem can be dealt with.

With the aging process it is natural for hair to thin however if there is a sudden excessive loss or patches following out itis time to see a doctor to ensure there is no disease or toxicity that needs to be treated. Alopecia areata, Addisons, autoimmune disorders, and even thyroid conditions can all cause severe hair loss which means when treated the hair loss will stop.

The food people eat can also cause baldness. Deficiencies in the diet such as lack of iron can be responsible for hair loss. Blood work to check for anemia should be done especially if the fingernails have also become thin.

Vitamin B12 and omega 3 fatty acids will not make the hair grow back but they will maintain the hair left on the head healthy and shiny. Omega fatty acids are critical to overall health and can be found in all cold water fish like salmon, mackerel, and cod.

Studies have shown that it can reduce the amount of hair loss. Green tea is a powerful antioxidant that can benefit the entire body. And it can stimulate the growth of new hair over several months.

NEOSH101 is a new topical treatment with no known side effects. Phase 2 of the clinical studies is underway and it is looking very promising however it is not yet available to the general public.

Minoxidil which is good for men and women is a medication that stops the enzyme 5-AR. Studies have shown this medication to work but it can take as much as 4 months for the benefits to show. It does not work well on receding hairlines or frontal hairlines but it does work well on the crown of the head. Always follow the directions of the doctor.

Propecia is a pill that is taken once a day and it blocks 5-ARenzyme which creates DHT or dihydro testosterone associated with pattern baldness in men. Rogaine is a topical lotion available in two strengths stimulating the growth of hair in both women and men. Avodart and Nizoral are two other treatments that are approved for hair loss.

Hair transplants can provide excellent results that look natural and last a long time. The surgeon will determine the best course of action. Nonsurgical hair replacement involves the use of hair pieces made from natural hair.

Some medications can actually be responsible for hair loss including hormone replacement therapy, high blood pressure medicines, cholesterol drugs, and steroids. But for most it is all about genetics with most hair loss inherited from one or both parents.

The future is certainly bright with many new treatments on the horizon. With the modern day treatments if you are bald you can get your hair back today.
